HOW TO WEATHER TOGETHER (INSET BOOKS)

As part of the how to weather together book project, we have a series of 10 illustrated insets that correspond with different practices for weathering climate change.

These are going to be published between chapters in the offical book. But they’re also CUTE/beautiful drawings by tessa Zettel that we are turning into a stand alone book, with some posters and bookmarks a well. On Friday 18th July we met Mickie quick at Bad Press in Jubilee Park to print some art book versions on the big offset press.

There is a glitch in the matrix today though and for the first time ever the press is not working. Dang! It is giving us a chance to keep plugging away at the design of the other plates and, as i am doing right now, updating the blog!

We are hoping that his trip to the hardware store will solve it (broken fuse?!?!) but we’re not sure. Meanwhile we got the history of the press. Apparently some guy bought the press 2nd hand in 1989 for $AUD300,000 (that’s 1989 dollars – calculating on the reserve bank of australia website that would have been $777,253.62 in 2024, if the price rose line with inflation). But, reader, the price did not rise and instead the owner of the press was liquidated in 2004 and the press sold to the highest bidder for $50. That is $aud50 in 2004 (or $85.81 in 2024). If I do the maths I can tell you that that is an insane deal.

And so we wait. I hope to be able to share images from the actual printing soon, but for now, updating the blog and doing the index and fixing the designs is all that is possible for us.
